
This course is designed to increase a student’s ability to prepare and practice for trade specific job applications and interview processes. Effective and efficient communication skills are essential elements in acquiring and retaining a career in a highly competitive job market environment.
Students will develop a job search portfolio that includes “blue collar” resume, cover letter and reference statements. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to complete a market research paper on their chosen trade. Comparison studies reveal the complexities of the market trends and their impact and response to external and economic pressures. Students will explore a variety of programs from the following sectors:Ī key component of the program is an integrated trade’s research project directed by the student within their chosen field or industry: their own search for knowledge, expertise and individual contacts allows the student the opportunity to realistically assess the actuality of their educational and/or employment choice.

The Trades Discovery programs are designed to allow participants extensive access to the available trades and technical training at BCIT campuses. Keen Utility, under their She Builds initiative, will be providing work boots for all participants. Our staff will work with participants to source additional supports to ensure a positive learning experience.
